Success in Early Reading

Early Years & KS1 

The Success in Early Reading course aims to  enable the participants to:   

Explore current research evidence around pre-reading activities and reading in the Early Years and KS1;   

Explore and share ideas about a range of reading  and oracy materials and strategies and try these in the classroom. 

The 6 sessions include:

A whole school approach to phonics 

Practising and applying phonic knowledge

Effective structured interventions

Developing language comprehension

A love of reading across the school

A reading community: pupils, staff, parents and community

Creating Confident Readers

Key Stage 2

The Creating Confident Readers course aims to enable the participants to:

Explore current research evidence on reading in KS2;

Explore and share ideas about a range of reading and oracy materials and strategies and try these in the classroom.

The 6 sessions include: Modelling for reading comprehension

Reading for learning and knowledge for reading Creating a love of reading in your school

High quality structured interventions

Accuracy and fluency in readin

Reading across the whole school community

Creating Readers for Life

Secondary

The Creating Readers for Life course aims to enable the participants to: 

Explore current research evidence around reading for Secondary students Explore and share ideas about a range of reading and talk for reading          materials and strategies and try these in the classroom.

The 6 sessions include: Disciplinary literacy across the curriculum Reading complex academic texts

Focused vocabulary teaching and using reading to develop academic writing

Using structured talk to support reading

High quality interventions for struggling students Developing a love of reading across the school community

The Reading for Life series is aimed at senior leaders, subject leaders and teachers developing literacy in their class or school. This CPD series comprises three strands: Success in Early Reading, Creating Confident Readers and Creating Readers for Life. It focuses on the practical implementation of current research evidence and current thinking on curriculum development. Each session includes guidance and examples of how to implement the strategies for early learners of EAL and struggling readers
